Sarah Dodgson joined the HWC team in 2014, taking over as lead designer in 2016. Sarah is also working sales design to work with our customers to help them develop their remodeling ideas into a beautiful real home improvement!
A big part of her job in design is 20/20 designs.
Sarah is also an active licensed Real Estate agent and has a great talent for knowing what makes homes in the area attractive to most families.
With her degree from the School of Planning, Design & Construction at Michigan State University, Sarah majored in Interior Design, making her a "double threat" for HWC - when customers visit the showroom with questions about what their project could or should look like, Sarah can also provide outstanding suggestions as she shows you around the Showroom.

Tom Polega, Vice President Production Department Manager
As our most experienced installation professional, Tom's 27 years with HWC have all been spent in developing his extensive remodeling skills and outstanding Customer Service. Tom reports to HWC owner Dave VanHouten and is responsible for the overall performance of the company.
Tom also serves as HWC's full-time Production Manager. After the Sales Design Team gets the details down on paper, Tom will come out to meet you, re-measure your project in more detail and schedule the HWC installation team that will install and complete your renovation.
He supervises our employee carpenters and specialty sub-contractors, when needed, on your project. Tom is there to guarantee that your job is completed according to plan - on time and and on budget.
There is very little that surprises Tom on the job and his experience helps him produce a beautiful room addition, bathroom renovation or a new kitchen on time and on budget every time!
Tom is also our countertop expert and has developed a fantastic reputation in the area for creating and installing beautiful work surfaces in a wide variety of materials. He specializes in solid surface counters. He is also a master when it comes to installing beautiful laminate surfaces, too.
Tom provides outstanding carpentry skills and leadership for the entire HWC team!
Kendra is a great asset to the HWC team. She serves as HWC's General Manager.
In addition to overseeing most of the day-to-day operations, she helps make sure that things run smoothly on your project, working to schedule our HWC carpenter employees or any sub-contractors that may be needed to help complete your project.
Kendra also makes sure that all the products and supplies that will become a part of your home renovation are correct and delivered on time, coordinating with Kelly, other HWC employees and/or sub-contractors to make a successful renovation in your home happen.
She also is our primary person to stay in touch with you during the entire process. Though it's no easy task, Kendra does make it look a lot easier than it really is!
She is another major reason why HWC can confidently guarantee our price estimates and our installation schedules!
HWC uses skilled Employee-Carpenters and Installers for most of the work!

Don is as skilled an artisan carpenter as they come! He has been an HWC professional for more than 21 years.
Our Customers often comment how much they enjoyed having Don in their home working on their home improvement project. He earns rave reviews not only for his skills, but also his attention to daily clean-up and his always upbeat personality!
"Don was great to have here. He used his broom as much as he used his hammer", Pat, a past customer of HWC, said. "He kept the work area neat and tidy and every night swept the the area clean before he left."
Don is one of the reasons that we are so confident that HWC can handle any remodeling, renovation or repair task that you might have.
Chris Mullin Senior Carpenter
Another of our experienced carpenters is Chris Mullin who has been part of the HWC payroll as a Carpenter for over 15 years.
Not only does Chris excel in his carpentry and installation skills, Chris has developed an excellent customer service attitude and a clear way of communicating with his customers while he is on the job. We get a lot of thank you notes and compliment cards from our customers and Chris often leads the team in being singled out and thanked in those notes!
Chris brings a high level of professionalism into your home on every project. "Every job presents its own unique set of challenges and problems, most often ones that you can't predict will be there before you start", Chris said. "This job is all about solving each of those problems when they arise to get the job done the right way."
If Chris is your lead carpenter, you, too, will be very happy that he is on the HWC team!
Jim Schut Senior Carpenter
In addition to being a highly-skilled carpenter, Jim Schut is an amazing guy! Jim has been on our roster for more than 15 years and we are proud of that!
In early 2012, Jim financed his own way on a mission trip to Haiti to help build a medical office and school that were destroyed in the massive Haiti earthquake in 2011. He brought his own tools, too! Jim was so moved by the experience, that one month after he arrived home, he paid for a second trip back to Haiti "because there was still a lot of work left to do."
Jim also financed his way back to Haiti for his 3rd trip in January 2014 where he spent a couple more weeks helping rebuild neighborhoods ravaged by the earthquake and still in need of help. His professional skills and project management experience are proving invaluable to the people of Port au Prince!
We are happy to have Jim on our payroll and you will appreciate his dedication to detail and his conscientiousness as he works hard to beautify your home!
Grant Woltjer Carpenter

He is a hard worker and provides whatever able-bodied help is needed on yours and your neighbor's remodeling project! Grant is a great addition to the HWC Production Crew!
